What is the difference between Level 2 and DC Fast Charging for commercial sites?
Level 2 delivers 7.2 to 19.2 kW on 240V or 208V single-phase, adding roughly 40 to 100 kilometres of range per hour, and suits workplace, condo, and hotel dwell-time scenarios where cars sit for hours. DC Fast Charging delivers 50 kW to 350 kW on 480V three-phase, adding 200 to 1,000 kilometres of range per hour, and suits public retail, highway corridor, and fleet quick-turn scenarios where the vehicle plugs in for 15 to 45 minutes.
What is the ZEVIP federal grant program?
The Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP) is a Natural Resources Canada grant that funds up to 50% of eligible commercial EV charging installation costs, capped at $5,000 per Level 2 port and $50,000 per DCFC port. Delivery agents administer the intake. We prepare the technical package, load calculations, and quote breakdowns your delivery agent needs.
How do we handle demand charges on a commercial DC Fast Charger?
DCFC installations create large 15-minute demand spikes that trigger monthly demand-charge tariffs from Toronto Hydro, Alectra, and other GTA utilities. We design around that through OCPP-networked load management, battery buffering where the site suits it, time-of-use scheduling, and demand-response contracts with the utility. Yes. Ontario Condominium Act Section 98 is the legislative framework for adding an EV charger to a condo unit or common element. We prepare the full turnkey package: status certificate review, dedicated submetering through Wyse, Carma, or SWTCH, common-element parking allocation, board technical documentation, insurance certificate for the corporation, and core drilling with fire-stop penetrations rated to the building envelope.
What warranties apply to commercial EV chargers?
Commercial charging hardware carries manufacturer parts warranties: typically 3 years on Level 2 stations (extendable to 5) and 5 years on DCFC hardware (extendable to 10 with a service contract). We register the warranty on your behalf. Network subscriptions from ChargePoint, FLO, or SWTCH cover software uptime and remote diagnostics separately, priced per port per month.
